Physically, mentally and socially healthy is the definition of healthy, based on World Health Organization (WHO). Therefore, a person can be healthy if all the components have been fulfilled. Being healthy means being able to carry out daily activities fully without any obstacles. Everyone expects to be healthy however, the reality shows the fact that there are still many people who are sick both physically and mentally. One form of mental disorder is a personality disorder.
Personality has a definition of behavior patterns, habits, and a person’s body shape that is shown by a person is his daily life (Ahmadi, Sholeh, 2005, p. 158). A personality can be influenced by several things such as the environment and family, both of these inseparable and it is the beginning of the formation of the personality of an individual. Meanwhile, Personality Disorder is a way of thinking, feeling, and behaving that makes a person different from others. A person’s personality is influenced by experience, environment, and inherited characteristics. A personality disorder is a way of thinking, feeling, and behaving that deviates from cultural expectations, causes thinking difficulties and persists over time. (American Psychiatric Association, 2013). The World Health Organization in 2000 stated that there are 45 million people who suffer from personality disorders. This disorder affects nearly 1% of the adult population and usually happen on late adolescence or early adulthood. This disorder usually starts at a younger age of man, namely 15-25 years, while it is slower in women, which is around 25-35 years. The incidence of personality disorders in men is higher than in women. So many people get personality disorders and therefore, it make us have to pay more attention to these disorders by maintaining our mental health.
There are several ways to maintain our mental health according to dr. Sahat Hamonangan H, M. Biomed, Sp. Kj, those are controlling emotions, trying new things, telling stories to people and being more open, being active outside the home, exercising, doing meditation, and getting enough rest. Some of the ways above can be used to reduce the risk of experiencing mental disorders.
After knowing a little information about mental disorders, especially personality disorders, it is better if you do not do self-diagnose. If you feel you have a mental health disorder, seek help for mental health services at a hospital or other health facility facilities immediately and you can call the hotline 119 to get official mental health services from the Perhimpunan Dokter Spesialis Kesehatan Jiwa Indonesia (PDSKJI). Even though it looks easy to be healthy, it still takes effort and struggle to keep yourself healthy, both physically, mentally, and socially.
