1. INTRODUCTION

Based on the Oxford dictionaries, internship is a period of time during which a student or new graduate gets practical experience in a job.[1] For these past few years, Cendekia Harapan has included internship as one of their programs for ninth until twelve graders. This program is held once in an academic year and last for five days. This year, it was done on the 2 until 6 September 2019.

 

Before the internship, students were divided into several groups based on where we are going to be placed. One group usually will consist of one to four students depending on how many intern(s) the company need. The company itself it is chosen by the school based on student’s interest and skills. For this year, the companies that are chosen as the students workplace includes Bali Artemedia, Bali Cool Property, Funny Pancake and Coffee, Money Changer, La Passion, Kedonganan Veterinarian, Alam KulKul Boutique Resort, Pegasus Indonesia and Odyssey.

 

This program aims to simply develop student’s skills in working in their desired job. Students will also gain a lot of experience of a real life working through this program. Although this program only last for 5 days, it will help students to prepare for their future career as lesson about attitude, knowledge and experience given through this internship program.

 

  1. COMPANY PROFILE

Alam Kulkul Boutique Resort was first build in 1989 and was opened on June 29 by……….. When it was first build, it was called Kulkul Beach Resort instead of Alam Kulkul Boutique Resort. This hotel is located in Jalan Pantai Kuta, Legian, Bali.  The hotel has 80 rooms and 23 villas with 91% occupancies. The facilities and service in this hotel are pretty common, for example, spa, restaurant, meeting room, swimming pool, and more.

 

In this hotel there are a lot of departments. The department includes Human Resource Department (HDR), sales/marketing, accounting, front office, housekeeping, F&B service, F&B kitchen, etc. Each of these departments has a head/director and all of them are managed by a general manager. The market of this hotel is mostly foreigners (mostly Australian and Japanese).

 

  • INTERSHIP ACTIVITIES

For the entire 5 days, we worked 8 hours from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. We were assigned in Alam Kulkul Boutique Resort in four different departments. The department includes housekeeping, F&B service, F&B kitchen, and sales. We were supervised by Bu Tina which is the head of Human Resource Department (HRD). We were also given mentors for each department that supervised us during the internship.

On the first day I was given a brief presentation of the hotel and each department. I was then brought to observe my working place and also the rooms in the hotel. This was the first day I learned how to polished dishes. I also learned to clear up plates from guest room and distribute jars of cookies to each room. Later in the afternoon, I helped to prepare and set up the restaurant for the evening buffet.

 

Day two and day three are pretty much the same. I clear up some dishes and washed them. It was also my first day learning to clear up plates from guest that were eating in the restaurant and deliver food for room service. I was also taken to deliver cookies while learning the room positions of the hotel. I then accompanied one of my senior to clear up the dishes from Alam Club and brought them back to the pantry. Same as day one, I also set up the restaurant for the evening buffet again.

 

On day four I was in charge at the pool bar. The activities I did includes preparing beverages, serve the pool guest, manage the towel distribution, cleaned the setting area around the pool, deliver food and beverages from the other restaurant helped picking mint leaves. On the last day, I was assigned in the Papa’s restaurant. I helped polished plates and spoons, serve the customer, clear up dishes, fold the tissue and napkin, and also cleaned the table.
