To be able to establish good relationships with other people, one needs to adapt well. Of course, it is also necessary to establish assertive and healthy communication between each other so that a person is able to develop optimally. Because humans are actually social creatures, that is, humans will be able to survive with the help of other people. But sometimes there are some people who have not been able to adapt and establish good relationships with other people. One of the behaviors that cause these things is egocentric behavior.

Shaffer (2009) defines egocentrism as a tendency to view the world from one’s personal perspective without realizing that other people can have a different point of view. In this case, it means that a person tends to be less able to see things from the point of view of others. Of course this will also affect a person’s social life. On the other hand, Fauzi (2010) explains that egocentrism is the ability of a person’s perception that is limited to personal interests or needs, not oriented to the separation between oneself and other objects.

In a study by Annisa (2016) regarding the Effect of Egocentrism on Social Competence in Adolescents with Only Child Status, data obtained that egocentrism affects social competence, namely 7% and 93% is influenced by other factors, such as the influence of relationships with social, health, environment and reciprocal relationships. Furthermore, research by Nabilah (2019) on the Relationship Between Egocentrism and Social Acceptance of Regular Students towards Students with Special Needs in Inclusive Schools finds that egocentrism and social acceptance by students are in the low category.

Although egocentrism does not have a significant effect on a person’s life, with the presence of egocentrism, it affects a person’s perception of seeing life from various points of view.
